The average walking speed of a polar bear is 5.5 kph (3.4 mph). When being chased or charging prey, polar bears can run as fast as 40 kph (25 mph) for short distances.

Polar bears are the size of large brown bears. The largest males can weigh in excess of 1700 lbs, but the average is 600–1200 lbs and 8–10 feet in length. Adult females weigh 400–700 lbs.

Some move on land for the summer. One of the largest bears: males average 7-9 feet (may reach 9 feet) with a height of 5 feet at the shoulder. The average weight is 900 pounds and the record weight is 1600 pounds. Females are smaller weighing 400-500 pounds on average.
